Spare a thought for the true fashion victims of NYFW.
No, not the Yeezy models (although we send them our sympathies). We’re talking about the kind, patient souls who volunteer to follow around their blogger friends and snap their street style photos for Instagram.
These are the Instagram husbands. The tag-along friends. The acquaintances who own good cameras and were told they’d be having a fun day out.
These underappreciated people are the ones who keep the fashion industry alive. Because how else would we know which clothes to buy, had we not seen a blogger posing next to a brick wall on Instagram?
But if you’re not lucky to have a person who loves you so much they’re willing to follow you around and take your photo for the seventeenth time (the lighting wasn’t quite right in the first sixteen, you see), don’t panic. There’s an alternative option.
Throughout New York Fashion Week, Task Rabbit is offering hire-able street style photographers that you can pay to be your own personal Instagrammer by the hour.
The service is pretty simple. You book in your Instagram husband (or wife) through Task Rabbit’s app or website, and either schedule them to meet you at a certain time, or wait for them to come to you.
Once they get there, they’ll happily take pictures of your look and do some light editing so you look your best, before helping you select the best photos to post.
Other NYFW services include picking up samples, carrying bags, and reorganising closets.
Never again will you have to faff around with a selfie stick while you stress out about the size of your shopping backs. Phew.
Sadly, the Instagram Husband service is only currently available in New York, and only for the duration of Fashion Week, so it’s not an option for all your spontaneous full-length selfie needs.
Here’s hoping Task Rabbit brings us Instagram Husbands for London Fashion Week. Or Christmas. We need this.
