    The festive season is over and we have now entered a new year. Call us psychic but we’re guessing you’re still feeling the effects of the festivities and are now feeling a touch of the January blues.

    As the nights draw in and the rain and cold begin to really hit home, the thoughts of sunshine and some vitamin D are all that’s one our minds.

    So here’s our guide to the best destinations for some January sun, with a range of options depending on how warm you like the climate.

    Rio de Janerio

    The Brazilian city is blessed with sunshine this time of year and temperatures average at around 26°C.

    You can also visit the famous Christ the Redeemer statue and experience the vibrant culture in the city.

    Tenerife

    Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, is home to Mount Teide one of the world’s largest volcanoes, 7500m above the ocean floor.

    January is one of the coldest months, however it is still very warm as it reaches an average daily maximum of 21°C and experiences up to six hours of daily sunshine.

    Cape Verde

    The archipelago of islands off the east coast of Africa not only boasts a Caribbean climate, it offers a mix of cultural cuisines from African and Brazilian to Portuguese.

    January is the coldest month but it is still very warm as its average daily maximum is 25°C and six hours of sunshine.

    Jamaica

    Jamaica is a brilliant location to go this time of year and offers fantastic beaches, protected coves, mountains, waterfalls, caves and, of course, sunshine.

    January in Jamaica has an average temperature of 25°C and around nine hours of sunshine per day.

    Sydney

    Sydney in January is good news for sun lovers as it is the hottest month of the year and you can visit the world-famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge if it gets too muggy.

    Summertime here brings eight hours of rays and temperatures averaging 27.4°C.

    Florida

    Want to take the family away and entertain the kids? Then Florida is a great location this time of year.

    You can visit one of the theme parks in Orlando or Miami’s South Beach with average temperatures coming at 22°C.

    Dominican Republic

    This is a brilliant location to visit, with resorts Puerto Plata or Punta Cana popular choices and temperatures reaching as high as 29°C.

    Bangkok

    The nation’s capital is a brilliant city full of vigour, culture and energy and the daily average temperature for Bangkok is usually around 27°C, which is far higher than the majority of Europe.

    Cancun

    Cancun is a popular destination to visit in Mexico with its warm climate.

    The beaches are beautiful and the temperature in January reaches a daily maximum of 30.5°C.

    Cape Town

    Explore the delights of the Indian Ocean in South Africa this time of year, with the January average temperature being 22°C.
