Tired of every Instagrammable pink drink, zingy matcha lattes, and increasingly ridiculous unicorn-themed beverage?
Give up the colour and go for a drink as black and icy as your soul.
Round K Café in New York is now selling something they call the matte black latte.
It looks like tar, which isn’t particularly appetising, but contains some genuinely delicious ingredients: Espresso, coconut ash, dutch processed cacao, and almond milk.
It’s dairy free, and gets its colour from the coconut ash we mentioned, instead of using increasingly popular activated charcoal.
The café blend the ingredients together to create what’s essentially the ultimate goth latte. Black, matte, creamy, and cold.
It’s the perfect antidote to all the super-sugary unicorn lattes you’ve probably been seeing all over your screen, with the addition of a much-needed caffeine hit.
This isn’t the first ~edgy~ drink Round K has debuted. They also make wasabi lattes (which sound bloody weird, if we’re honest), and egg cappuccinos.
Sadly, both the wasabi latte and the matte black latte are exclusive to Round K, so you won’t be able to try them out unless you’re planning a trip to New York or fancy getting the ingredients yourself.
But hey, if you’re becoming increasingly frustrated by the unicorn trend, you can always rebel by just getting regular black coffee – free of all gimmicks, sugar, and pretty colours.
That’ll show ’em.
