Surfing isn’t the easiest of sports.
You’ve got to have your balance, strength and fitness on point, and you need to be able to read the waves like a book.
Many two-legged beasts struggle with it, but four-legged? Easy, pal.
Just take a look at the canines shredding at the 9th annual City Surf Dog competition at Huntington Beach, California on Saturday (September 23).
Around 3,000 people attended the event, which included 59 dogs from the USA, Brazil and Canada.
Contestants were greeted with a large swell which meant the dogs could really show what they were made of. You go, surfing doggos!
Here’s what went down:
The dogs wear life jackets to keep them safe – as modelled by surf dog Georgia
It’s all in good spirits as owners and hounds cheer their pals on while they wait to compete
Here’s surf dog Cherie keeping her cool in triple overhead conditions
Let’s take a closer look
That’s the look of a hungry winner, right there
An owner keeping his dog safe in the sea
Here are Giselle and Rusty competing in the tandem dog heat
Bamboo and Jedi look pretty chill after their tandem heat
There’s a human/dog tandem heat, too
Look at surf dog Skyler and his human pal go!
These hounds in the shredder heat look like they’re about to crash, eek!
Abbie Girl takes a huge wave in the shredder category
Giselle the Rhodesian ridgeback mix looking calm as she narrowly avoids getting shat on by the sea
Yet another dog looking chill as all hell breaks loose behind them
Just a dog hanging ten. Nothing to see here…

Golden doodle Derby looks stylish while he waits to compete in the big dog division
If you’re inspired by this and want your dog to be riding gnarly waves, you should move to Sydney and track down former surfing champ Chris de Aboitiz, who now spends his time teaching dogs how to surf.
Probs ‘cos he was jeal that they’re all better surfers than him…
