You’ve seen the dresses. You’ve closely analysed every second of Taylor Swift’s video for Look What You Made Me Do. You’ve marvelled at Kendrick Lamar’s performance.
Now, can we PLEASE spend a minute appreciating the beauty looks at this year’s MTV VMAs? They’re important.
The VMAs tend to be a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to fashion and beauty. There’s no unifying theme, and the degree of fanciness varies widely between celebs, ranging from full on ballgowns to latex bodysuits.
The same goes for makeup. Some attendees went really, really bold (*cough* Katy Perry *cough*), while others chose a more subtle look.
Here are our favourite beauty looks of the night.
That deep side-part. That flawless, glowy skin. That nineties nude lip. Those brows.
Teyana Taylor always looks incredible (have you seen her abs?), but this makeup look is worth serious applause.
It’s the kind of barely there makeup we’ve always dreamed of.
Katy Perry’s makeup for the red carpet was a bit divisive.
It’s the opposite of subtle, and almost veers into heavy-handed.
But you’ve got to admire the skill that went into that eyeshadow. It looks like Katy’s got a mini sunset on each eyelid.
When we think of Lorde, we tend to think of a lord of darkness – all edgy, dark, and heavy.
So a frosted pink look is fairly unexpected.
Also unexpected? For us to like pink, glimmery eyeshadow this much. What should be Barbie-ish is suddenly delicate and cool.
Pass us the pink lippie and some eyeliner to match. We’re in.
Ignore the excellent cat eye, glorious shadow, and amazing skin for a second, and focus on the hair.
It looks like a Drumstick lolly and we are obsessed.
Can someone PLEASE tell us the exact brand and shade this lipstick is? We need it.
