She revealed she was expecting her first child last month, just weeks after splitting from ex Nathan Massey.

And Cara De La Hoyde has now admitted that while the news had been a ‘huge shock’, she believes it is better the baby will be raised away from the pair’s ‘volatile relationship’.

Talking on Tuesday’s This Morning, the Love Island star, 27, revealed she and Nathan, 25, came to an end as they took things too quickly – but remained coy about the chance of a reconciliation in the future.

Nathan and Cara fell in love on the 2016 series of Love Island, and went on to win the show as the most popular couple with viewers.

After almost a year of romance, the pair then parted ways in April – but went on to shock fans by announcing they were expecting a baby just one month later.

Speaking about the current state of their relationship, the brunette beauty admitted to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that the pregnancy had come as a huge shock to the estranged couple.

She explained: ‘I was actually in hospital having a cervical examination and then I found out I was pregnant. So I didn’t go in to find that, so that was a shock.’

However, she went on to admit that she and Nathan are still on very amicable terms, and plan to do everything they can for their child – even though they are no longer romantically involved.

She continued: ‘We are really good, we’re constantly in contact, he knows everything that he needs to know.

‘He was very shocked, just the same as I was, and we tried to make it work, but sometimes it’s better for the baby not to be in that volatile relationship.’

The pair confirmed their break-up on social media two months ago – with Nathan describing the split on Instagram as: ‘The worst feeling in the world, when you know that you both love each other, but still you can’t be together!’

Shedding further light on why it all went wrong, circus performer Cara confessed the pair had moved too quickly in the real world, after leaving their six-week stint in the Love Island villa.

‘Looking back on it now, my main bit of advice for everyone is when you come out don’t rush things,’ she said. ‘Because you think that you know each other so well.’

Having left the Majorca-based series after spending 24 hours a day with Nathan on set, she continued: ‘We jumped in head first and lived together, we’ve still got so much love for each other, but everything happened so quickly and I think it ruined it.’

However, the reality star remained incredibly cryptic when asked about whether a reconciliation between the pair, who bagged the £50,000 prize on the ITV2 show, could be on the cards.

She said coyly: ‘There’s nothing to say in the future but we won’t get back together.

Of course, it’d be lovely to have a little family and look back and show our kid where we met.’

‘I’ve got great friends, great family, Nathan’s family are there, he’s there for me. We couldn’t have a better set up how things are at the moment.’
