When I was younger and I found out my mum was going to be having another baby, I was really annoyed.
Why? Because my mum was my mum – and I didn’t want to share.
Of course, I grew up, and now my little sister is my best friend – but I can totally sympathise with this little girl, who was seriously unimpressed to be finding out she was going to be having a baby brother.
Already knowing her mother was pregnant, the little girl had an excited look on her face as she was given a gift which would reveal the gender of the baby.
But, as she looked inside and pulled out a cupcake with blue icing – her excitement turned to sheer disappointment.
‘Oh, it’s a boy,’ she said, with a little bit of hope left in her voice that somehow this was all one big joke.
‘Is it really a boy?’
When her mum confirmed that in fact, this was not a joke at all, the girl made it clear that she wasn’t at all happy.
But her mum took no prisoners, telling her she ‘better get used to it’.
Unfortunately, it seems the little girl shares her mother’s stubbornness – and gave her a very firm ‘no’.
Let’s pray things turn around when she gets to boast at school about how she’s now a big sister with lots of responsibility – otherwise her mum better get working on the sister she so desperately wanted.
