She recently relived her personal trauma when her Coronation Street character Michelle Connor lost her son to a stillbirth at 23 weeks.

And in light of the undoubtedly difficult story line, Kym Marsh has now reflected on the tragic death of her own baby son Archie – admitting that she would not have pulled through without the support of her family.

Talking to The Sun on Sunday, the actress, 40, confessed that it was her kids David and Emilie who helped her ‘move forward’ from the stillbirth that left her feeling completely ‘lost’ back in 2009.

Eight years ago, Kym tragically lost her son Archie with her former partner Jamie Lomas, after he was born 18 weeks early.

While she has now found the strength to recreate the same story line on the ITV soap, the star admitted that the heartbreaking occurrence left her feeling ‘lost’ at the time – something that was only eased by her two children David and Emilie, then 13 and 11.

She admitted to the paper: ‘When I lost Archie, all I could think was, ‘Why has this happened to me?’

‘I never got to the point of thinking about taking my own life, but I don’t know how I might have felt if I hadn’t had two young children and a good support network around me.’

Kym went on to explain that her family always celebrate little Archie at family events and holidays, and she has raised her other three kids – having welcomed Polly in 2011 – to see the tot as a brother who watches over them.

‘I just wanted to stay hidden away forever,’ she recalled of the tragic time, before adding reassuringly: ‘But you do learn to accept it and move forward.’

While the pain of losing a child will never leave her, Kym has since channeled her emotions into a mirroring story line on Coronation Street.

Her character Michelle lost her own son Ruairi at 23 weeks on the show last month, and has since spiraled into depression and a web of suicidal thoughts.

The brunette spoke of her decision to go through with the painful plotline on Good Morning Britain last month – explaining that she hoped to support and help other women who have suffered the same thing.

She said: ‘My reasons behind agreeing to go ahead with it were in the hopes that it might help someone somewhere. That someone might relate to it and it would help people to talk.’

It was not only Kym who had to relive the tragedy however, as her on-screen husband Simon Gregson has also suffered 11 miscarriages in the past.

She added of the pair’s effort: ‘It wasn’t the easiest of storylines to portray having been through it yourself.’

The star also reiterated her desire for a change in the law for parents of stillborn babies to be given birth certificates on the show – after she failed to receive one herself following Archie’s birth.

‘That was one of the things for me when I lost Archie eight years ago which grated on me,’ she admitted. ‘Why is my son not registered?

‘A lot of parents who have lost children feel the same way.’

However, Kym has since become a mother to five-year-old Polly from her previous marriage to Jamie – and has spoken in the past about her belief that the little girl is a gift from her late son.

She previously said on This Morning: ‘We all see Polly as a gift from Archie. If it wasn’t for him, no one would have intervened with any problems I had and helped me to get pregnant with her.’

Kym’s portrayal of the grieving mother on the soap was met with rave reviews from viewers after the heart-breaking episode – with her daughter Emilie also taking to Twitter to praise her ‘brave’ and ‘strong’ mother.

Clearly overcome with emotion, the 18-year-old gushed immediately after the scenes aired: ‘Can’t explain how proud I am of my amazing mummy! You’ve done Arch so proud. I love you! Both amazing.’

Before adding in further tribute: ‘Mum, I actually can’t believe how strong and brave you are. We all love you with everything we have. Our hero.’
