He had kept I’m A Celebrity viewers amused throughout his 20 day stint in the jungle.

But Stanley Johnson’s time in camp came to an end during Wednesday night’s episode of the show, as he became the fifth celebrity to be given the boot in the latest public vote.

The former politician, 77, told hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly that he was ‘gutted to be out’ while speaking of his love for Made In Chelsea‘s Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo and crediting the jungle for acting as ‘gastric surgery’ for him.

Cheered on by his campmates, Stanley made his exit out of camp and quickly joined Ant and Dec in the studio, making sure to reach for his glass of champagne that was ready and waiting for him.

Speaking of his departure, Boris Johnson’s father said: ‘I’m gutted to be out, you have no idea! It’s been a wonderful time, it couldn’t have been better.’

He had been the oldest person ever to enter the jungle and fans saw him form a close bond with the camp’s youngest addition, following the exit of Jack Maynard, Georgia, 23.

Asked about his friendship with Toff, Stanley had nothing but kind words to say about the reality star and insisted: ‘I’ve got a soft spot for Toff! I’m soft for Toff!’

He shrugged off the huge age gap between them, as he insisted he is just as close to his 12 grandchildren and was seen toasting to Toff, as Ant and Dec informed him that she had been ‘so sad’ since his exit from camp.

‘Oh I am sorry Toff,’ Stanley said as he raised his glass, before adding: ‘Here’s to you old girl’ and championing her for the win.

Addressing his reasons for wanting to take part in this year’s I’m A Celebrity series, Stanley insisted that he ‘always says yes’ to everything and ranked the experience ‘very high indeed’ among his many other feats.

Revealing what he loved most about the jungle, Stanley joked: ‘The wonderful environment to be in, congratulations to Australia for turning out and keeping this wonderful spot.

‘The friends, the conversation, it gave me a chance to speak about a few things I care about and above all we lose weight!’

‘This has been the most wonderful form of gastric surgery,’ he remarked.

Keeping his exit jovial and leaving Ant and Dec in hysterics, Stanley revealed that he was most looking forward to his ’emails’, as he explained: ‘I want to know what’s happening in the outside world.

‘I want to know if Boris is still Foreign Secretary – that is the sort of thing i will probably take a look at quite quickly!’

While Stanley’s exit brought some light relief to viewers at home, Wednesday’s episode had begun with a rather tense encounter between former footballer Dennis Wise and comedian Iain Lee.

The duo became embroiled in a heated spat about the latest Bushtucker Trial, where Dennis was seen speaking out against Iain’s wishes to tackle the trial.

The sports star told Iain he didn’t think he was the best choice for the job and he didn’t want to go without any dinner.

Iain had addressed the group and threw his name into the ring for Tutankha-Doom, the latest challenge that comprised of various tunnels underground filled with critters.

He revealed that he was keen to take on the trial, but made sure to address Jamie Lomas’ wishes to take part too. While Stanley Johnson initiated a discussion on which campmate would be best fit to carry out the trial, Dennis was quick to share his opinion that he didn’t think Iain could do it.

He said: ‘My only problem and I’ll be honest with you Iain, is that you’ve said, “Get me out of here,” twice and what I don’t want is we have no dinner.’

Fighting his corner, Iain pointed out that he had been triumphant in one trial and won the camp 11 stars, but Dennis pressed: ‘I get that… but twice out of the three you’ve done, you failed.’

Annoyed: 'Well Iain, the problem is you¿ve gone a couple of times and you¿ve come back with nothing, so that causes me a slight issue,' Dennis fired back in response, before becoming irked by his campmate.

‘If you come back with nothing, everyone will be upset,’ Dennis warned.

He insisted that he was entitled to his opinion and when Iain decided to retract his offer to take on the trial, an annoyed Dennis said: ‘I’m allowed that thought process so please don’t throw that back at me.

‘Don’t try and make me look bad, don’t play a game with me… I’m telling you now don’t play a game with me.’

In the Bush Telegraph, Iain admitted he had felt ‘humiliated’ by Dennis for bringing up his past failures, while Dennis insisted: ‘Nothing would please me more for Iain to come back with loads of stars, but you don’t want to come back with nothing.’

While Iain and Dennis managed to make amends following their spat, both were seen seen reflecting on the altercation later in the episode. Iain confessed: ‘I’m so not an alpha male or laddy lad, but I want people to like me,’ Dennis told Amir Khan: ‘I just felt he was trying to make me feel bad, I didn’t want to be rude.

‘Maybe it came across in the wrong manner, I tried not to be rude about it, it was nothing malicious or nasty, I just said what I thought.’

Instead, Jamie was voted in to take on the trial and went on to win 6 out of 7 stars for camp. He claimed that Iain would have ‘struggled’ with the challenge and told the comedian on his return to camp: ‘It would have been a tough one for you.’

As a result of his efforts, the camp were treated to ‘silkies’ – a form of chicken – but instead of getting the hearty dinner they desired, the celebrities were left disappointed by their meal.
