He may have to present programmes alone for the first time in 23 years as his double act partner takes time out to fight his drug and alcohol dependency.
But a dapper Dec Donnelly didn’t look too bereft without his troubled best pal Ant McPartlin as he attended David Walliams’ birthday party at Scott’s restaurant in Mayfair on Thursday.
Dec beamed for the cameras as he followed his wife, Ali Astall, through the doors at the plush venue, where the Britain’s Got Talent judge gathered a star-studded list of guests to celebrate turning 46.

Heading out: Ant, who admitted he put his wife Lisa Armstrong ‘through hell’ during his substance abuse, went for a low-key stroll near his home in London on Wednesday
Ali cut a classy figure in a black bandeau jumpsuit which showed off her sun-kissed shoulders.
She complemented the elegant all-black ensemble with a splash of pale pink nail varnish on her toes, which were on show in pretty strapped sandals.
Golden hoop earrings and a statement silver wristwatch completed her look, as the blonde beauty wore her shining locks loose in a side parting.

The funnyman’s comic buddy Ant returned home three weeks ago after going through two months of rehabilitation.

The 41-year-old TV presenter was casually clad in a grey jumper and shorts which exposed his support brace that he’s still wearing to recover from a fractured kneecap.
It was Ant’s leg brace that was most noticeable and it’s this injury that’s said to have brought on Ant’s woes, after he developed a dependency on painkillers, including Tramadol.
Ant has been battling his condition for two years after the knee operation went wrong in 2014, leaving him in constant pain.

Ant has subsequently been offered a sabbatical from TV channel ITV meaning that best friend Declan Donnelly may present alone for the first time in 23 years.
And while Ant takes time off from his presenting job, he has reportedly turned his attention to saving his 11-year marriage.
Lisa has openly stood by her husband during his rehab and is helping to aid his recovery, following his hints that their marriage was on the rocks in an interview with The Sun on Sunday.
Ant confessed that his condition had put a huge ‘strain’ on his relationship and describing the impact it had on his marriage, he said: ‘I’m very sorry about the effect it has on partners.’
Through thick and thin: Ant and Dec have presented TV programmes together for 23 years, and were awarded OBEs by the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace in January (pictured)
He added that he regrets not telling Lisa about his battles sooner, admitting: ‘In hindsight, I should have mentioned it earlier, but you’re embarrassed about it.’
‘I’ve put Lisa through hell with mood swings and depression and how it affects you,’ he confessed.
With the couple’s inability to conceive a contributing factor to his depression, Ant went on to admit the pair had ‘struggled’ in their marriage over the last few years – but that Lisa has been helping him every step of the way.
Candid: Ant released a statement about his health where he thanked Lisa (right) and family
Ahead of his rehab stay, Ant released a candid statement about his health where he thanked his wife and family.
It read: ‘The first step is to admit to yourself you need help. I’ve let people down. I’m truly sorry. I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I’m truly sorry. I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends through this really difficult time.
‘I have spoken out because I think it is important that people ask for help if they are going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery.’
It’s been reported that to aid Ant’s recovery going forward, he has also moved his mother Christine into his London home that he shares with Lisa.
