He has been single for the majority of his career, despite having a legion of female followers.

But Craig David blasted persistent rumours about his sexuality on Thursday, and revealed he would love to have a family in the future.

Speaking to The Sun’s Bizarre Life podcast, the 36-year-old branded the speculation as ‘nonsense’, and explained his sexuality is ‘very evident’ from the way he speaks about relationships in his music.

Rumours regarding his sexuality have swirled for many years, due to the fact he has been single for the majority of his career.

Addressing speculation he is gay, the Seven Days crooner admitted it was all ‘nonsense’, and went on to criticise society’s view that he should have to explain his romantic status.

He said of his sexuality: ‘I leave it very open because at the end of the day it’s one of those things where I shouldn’t have to reinforce and state, ‘No, I’m a heterosexual’ — because that’s all nonsense.

‘I think it’s very evident in the way my songs are and how I speak about relationships so I wouldn’t even go into it. It’s like if that’s what you feel it’s what you feel.’

However, while he is currently single, the Fill Me In hitmaker revealed he would love to share his music career with a partner and children in the future.

He continued: ‘I’d love to have kids. I think I’d be a very good dad and I think I’d have a lot of wisdom to share.’

Yet, Craig did admit he would never use dating apps to find love, as he feels connections are more authentic when formed face-to-face.

It is not the first time the Southampton native has blasted rumours he is gay – having confirmed he is straight, and that the speculation does not bother him, in October.

Speaking to KIIS FM last year, he said: ‘Sometimes people can get very aggressive with their response when they’re heterosexual, and I find that quite strange.’

Before adding: ‘Those rumours started back when we were playing RE-REWIND in the clubs.

‘All these women in the audience were interested in me, but I was having none of it. ‘Why? Well, you know, I was 17, still relatively inexperienced, sexually speaking, and these women were – what 24, 25. They terrified me!’
