Anyone who has lived through the 90s is eternally grateful that there was no social media to capture all of our cringe worthy activities.

Back in the 90s we thought everything was bloody amazing, and that what we were doing was the cutting edge and coolest stuff possible.

In reality, we did a lot of questionable things that really were nowhere near as snazzy as we thought at the time.

And every time we think back to our chosen activities, actions and obsessions we cringe and shudder.

    1. Wore bell bottoms

The common thinking was that the more flared the better.

We would beg our parents to let us get the widest pair possible, and then spend our weekends trying not to trip over them, or get something stuck in them.

We now wouldn’t leave the house in anything but a pair of skinny jeans.

    2. Hysteria over Titanic

Why did we think it was acceptable to do things like cry so much over it?

Or watch it repeatedly over and over again?

With the likes of Jurassic Park, Dangerous Minds, Sister Act and other great 90s movies, we weren’t exactly short on options were we?

    3. General hysteria

Everyone looks back at the 90s as this magical time, but for such a fun time we certainly did get upset quite a lot.

Like the hysteria over Take That splitting, or Geri leaving The Spice Girls. In fact, special hotlines were set up for the extra heartbroken.

And let’s not forget that whole Y2K panic and thinking that the world would end.

    4. Awful haircuts

Ah hair, even this was damaged by the 90s.

The standard choice of curtains were spotted on every lad.

And every gal struggled to style the much loved Rachel cut.

As a result all pictures of you from the 90s are carefully hidden away.

    5. Backwards cap

There was no other way to convey just how rebellious you were other than wearing your hat backwards.

It also conveyed just how painfully uncool you really were.

    6. Collected Beanie Babies

This was treated like an actual competitive sport.

And who can blame us? Apparently these would make us millionaires, and were our nest eggs for retirement.

Never happened, and you decline to mention that you had several hundred in your collection.

    6. Oh the dance moves

This was the decade of synchronised dance moves, and we couldn’t get enough.

There was cheese favourite the Macarena, the Running Man, and of course that weird choreography to accompany Whigfield’s Saturday Night.

    7. Tried to learn complex dance moves

If you really wanted to throw some serious shapes on the dance floor, then group dances were not quite cutting it for you.

You wanted to show off in a much more bigger way.

Without YouTube to watch music videos on, you went to the trouble of recording TOTP, and then in slow pain staking detail rewinding and pausing your favourite performances in an attempt to learn the moves.

Obviously with the door firmly shut, so no-one would catch you.

    9. Had terrible insults

When it came to insults we weren’t very creative.

We opted for the classic ‘whatever’ for every scenario.

This would often be followed by throwing up a comical W shape with our thumbs and forefingers.

    10. Cherished the Argos book

The obsession was a little too much, and we carefully looked after our own copy.

There was none of this personalised online shopping business, so we guarded this with our lives, and the outrage when you caught a sibling getting their sticky mitts all over it resulted in a few physical fights.

    11. Imagined you had a secret twin

At some point in the 90s we were all convinced that we had a secret twin roaming around, and our parents had neglected to mention this fact to us.

And with shows like Sister Sister and movies like The Parent Trap we were given the fuel for our far-fetched theories.

    12. So many posters

Thanks to the abundance of actual magazines a 90s bedroom was decked out floor to ceiling in a special collage, expressing our obsession with a particular musician or movie star.

Now we prefer minimal art prints.

    13. Fancied someone questionable

Like the Red Power Ranger, or A.C Slater from Saved By The Bell.

    Shudder.
